Edmondson Interiors have just been asked to make a simple white painted kitchen in a traditional format.

This one sprang to mind. A kitchen that was made more than ten years ago for this central London home and it could have been made yesterday. We love the simplicity of the design. The tiny but significant contrast provided by the maple trays that finish flush with the front face of the cabinetry is a small detail that has worked well.

The Sub Zero fridge is largely unchanged in styling on the outside but has been improved internally and the control and efficiency radically improved. We particularly like the water and ice dispenser on the inside giving an uninterrupted look.

Some things have changed the Wolf ovens are very dated here and we think the latest ovens are stunning and should have considerable attention to them by anybody who enjoys cooking, entertaining and stunning design. In particular a steam oven, single oven and warming drawer combination from the Wolf stable would be a very valid choice. Perhaps wolf stable is the wrong choice of words?

Also changed but this time not seen are the drawer runners. We still sometimes use ash for the drawers themselves but now use the latest Blum runner which is has a silky smooth action, self closes and adjusts in two different planes which is a boon for the installation team and there fine adjustments.

This is an open-plan kitchen/living room and a connection has been made to the open shelving on the far side of the living area and the kitchen itself. The furniture is shaker but has been given a modern twist with the brushed nickel handles and turned knobs. In keeping with the shaker design is the hand painted finish. This has been executed with a natural bristle brush from Purdy. It does make a difference sometimes we use a roller which does give a very uniform finish but in a kitchen like this it cries out for a flat finish with an element of brush marks and an almost matt finish to the paint. It is softer rounder and works that much better with the sofas and other soft furnishings.
