You have to start somewhere and Gaggenau have kick started my interest in cooking. Stephen Bulmer is a motivational chef who runs cookery classes at the beautiful Swinton park. His kitchen is equipped with an all-encompassing range of Gaggenau appliances. These were surprisingly easy to use, I am saying this slightly tongue in cheek because this is something I already knew, but had not experienced at first hand.

Stephen’s talents lie in making the most inept cook feel that great things are possible. The information is imparted at speed with humour and anecdotes that dispel self-consciousness, ‘oh’ and the wine helped. We had an introduction to using all sorts of things grown in an incredible, wild looking four acre walled garden. Freezing seasonal produce suddenly became easy, sensible and satisfying. Skills were learnt in chopping wild garlic leaves, dividing tomatoes into six equal parts, poaching quail eggs, and quartering onions and their skins for a beef stock. Nettles, dandelions, mint flowers, chive flowers and more were used, some just as an edible decoration.

To be really candid, I think it looks a little fusty at first glance but it is far from that. It is very creative, it brings a new edge to entertaining at home and just makes you think harder about capturing a freshness and a delicacy and a zing into the food one prepares and cooks. I am just remembering the crème brulee and the idea of adding a frozen base of homemade raspberry coulis, which is going to have to be tried out.

The final picture is a starter I made… yes… with some help… well quite a lot of help. Next time it will be on my own at our next event on the evening of August 12th. I hope that you can join us. It will be fun whatever the results.

Best Wishes

Richard

The flagship is the Egeiro panel design. The initial design has been utilised in a working kitchen in our showroom. It is constructed from solid oak. It is contemporary and the design features a raised door and drawer panel, hence egeiro the Greek for raised. We believe this a unique design. We are not aware of another contemporary kitchen in the market made from solid oak.
