The Brief
This kitchen came about a few years ago. The demand was for a kitchen that serviced a large home. A traditional large walk-in pantry formed an important storage function. A large area for food preparation was vital. Decent sized breakfast bar. Back up cooking to the large Aga. A wine fridge and a coffee maker please. So a lot to accommodate. Functional and easy to use.
Design Concept
Delineating areas for cooking and storage and eating would be important in the final design. Accessible storage vital. Painted furniture with wide door frames would help to make it strong looking. Shape and colour, accessories and lighting to stop it looking like a giant catering kitchen.
The Solution
The result was fabulous. The breakfast cupboard with a coffee maker and tall wine fridge in Farrow and Ball pelt was a great touch. This deep shade of purple was echoed in the stools and worked well with the leather sofa. Masses of drawers with ‘cup’ handles ticked every practical box going. Gaggenau ovens and warming drawer meant there was never going to be a problem cooking for big parties. The oak breakfast bar is a very sociable space overlooking the main food preparation area but also with a fine view to the outside.
