Project Description

URBAN CHIC

CONTEMPORARY

The Brief

Hidden, sleek, natural are the words that come to mind on this one. The desire was to create a stunning interior with a limited variation of materials and simple lines. The previous layout of small rooms and little windows offered little inspiration on even the brightest of days.

Design Concept

Adding a modest extension and reducing the number of rooms would bring the ground floor together and bring in more light. The furniture was to reflect the simplicity of the architectural layout with straight lines and subtle contrasts in the choice of materials. A new design concept was on the cards with this project. Like a fine wine ‘simple and robust with some complex accents’.

The Solution

Two very simple elements construct the design of this kitchen. A tall bank of furniture running to the underside of a plastered bulkhead and a waterfall marble island with specialist Bora cooking hob tops. These hob tops are flush fitting with exceptional extraction. We partnered these with a superb suite of Gaggenau ovens. The doors are made from a multi-core oak ply with an exposed edge which emphasises its origin rather than covering up and pretending to be something it isn’t. We stained this and contrasted this with bronze mirrors to the rear of the island. We worked closely on the detail with the use of Buster & Punch light fittings as an example. A geometric pattern for the tiled splashback echoes the herring–bone oak floor pattern.
